Leaving on a jet plane...

This weekend is Alumni Weekend at my alma mater, Roanoke College.  I'm scared to say how long it's been since I graduated, but it is one of those milestone years (okay, okay, I'll admit that it is way less than 20 and a bit more than 5 ;-).  As you read this, I'm probably on my way to Charlotte to spend a little time with some friends before we head to Roanoke for our reunion on Saturday.  I'm both excited and nervous. Excited to see friends I haven't seen in years, to catch up with my best friend (code name: The Reverend) and to meet her son (who is already 16 months old!), but nervous to run into people I would rather not see and to spend so much time away from school work. 

I have a couple of posts scheduled for the next few days.  But, I won't have access to the internet as much as usual, so I won't be able to comment on all of your wonderful reviews and posts.  I promise to catch up after I come back on Tuesday.

A Quick Recap & A Little Bit of Sunshine

It has been a crazy week!  I usually reserve The Serpentine Library for discussions/posts about books or other blogging related thing - so forgive me for taking a few minutes to talk about the crazy week I had (most of it is books related). You can skip to the book part now if you'd like, I won't mind. . .

I'm lucky that I get to work at a library that is in a new building (that's it down there).  It's beautiful and green, and the children/teen area is bright and colorful.  One whole wall of our room is a replica of a famous house in town (the house from the first set of American Girl books by Valerie Tripp).  By now, you're probably saying: yeah, okay get on with it. 

When we moved the library in August there was a mad scramble for shelving/bookcase and other organizational furniture for the offices.  Well, the youth services office got the lowest priority, so we've had no shelving or bookcases and everything has been in boxes for 6 months.  And when I say everything, I mean pretty much everything: reference books, storytime materials, program materials - a ton of stuff.  We kept hearing that we would be getting shelving or bookcases soon, but they never came.  Until, earlier this week, when miracle of miracles 3 lovely bookcases appeared in our office.  It has been so nice unpacking boxes and finding homes for everything!  I am a bit OCD when it comes to organization, so I'm very excited that the office is finally organized!

The first thing is that I've received this great award from Sarah's Book Reviews.  Thanks Sarah!  

I have had so much fun blogging and meeting so many great people and bloggers.  I love talking about books and giving and receiving recommendations.  It is so nice to have people to do that with - most of my friends roll their eyes when I start talking books around them.  So thank you to everyone who has checked out The Serpentine Library and made a comment!

The last thing, I promise, is that I love to podcast! We have been lucky, at the library, that so far we've been able to interview some great authors. And yesterday was no exception. We got to interview a debut author, whose book is one of my favorite reads of this year. I can't reveal who it is, as we have this no spoiler policy and it takes us awhile to edit each podcast and get it ready for publication, but it was a fun interview and I can't wait for everyone to hear it.
